In 1915 Norman Manley was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University and it was from there he conscripted into the army to serve in WWI.. He was a gunner in 1915 and rose to rank of Sergeant .

1916 – sent to Somme

Brother: Roy Manley, was killed in a German bombardment in Ypres in 1917: War grave can be found in Poperinghe New Military Cemetery in Belgium.
